My dad worked 80 hours a week for over 20 years while I was growing up. When he got to be around 45-50 years old he started showing serious signs of being burned out and ended up having a major mid life crisis that lasted for several years. Mostly due to the lack of sleep, all of the major missed life events of his children, lack of time with his wife/best friend, etc.

He ended up struggling with addiction and had some other demons he had to deal with due to my comments above. Because of what I watched him go through I will never put myself or my family through that despite a 6 figure + paycheck. At some point even all of the money in the world isn't worth a healthy life style and your most cherished relationships.

Good luck to her and you guys as a family. Hopefully it's just temporary and she's able to get on a more normalized schedule before long because that isnt sustainable forever... nor should it be. Best wishes

Yeah, you really got to wonder what the frick you're living for if all you're doing is working. shite, if what the OP is saying is truth, and his wife isn't just getting something on the side (which is what's probably really going on) that's 17 hours a day. I wouldn't even be able to get enough sleep to function. Really, I don't even see how people could possibly be productive working that much. At some point there are diminishing returns, and it starts to be counter-productive.
