In an abstract sort of way. If you live a just life then your reward is having lived a just life. If you do good things then you are not immune from bad things happening. Bad things happen to good people, completely undeserved, all the time. And vice versa, good things pan out as a result of bad actions all the time. The world is not just and a meritocracy. It is random and cruel.
