Even if he invented it, I am going with Skynrd as the true expression of what Southern Rock is and sounds like.

No, the Allman Brothers didn't "invent" Southern Rock. They inspired the artists who's sound would later define what Southern Rock is.
The Allman Brothers were a jazz/blues fusion band and only had a few songs I would categorize as Southern Rock.
