We stayed in Newburg last summer which is a great gateway to most of the wineries. Quiet little college town with a few decent food and bar options. Keep in mind that outside of a few areas, like the wine country, a lot of the valley is pretty standard farmland. There are a lot of places that feel more like Kansas than the PNW.
