SO is running the Berlin Marathon 09/29/19, we will arrive on 09/27/19 to accumulate..
We plan to stay in Europe through 10/12/19 & travel.
We thought about Eurorail travel through Austria, Switzerland & exit Europe from Paris. Any suggestions would be appreciated-

A few months ago I flew into London and left 3 weeks later out of budapest. Didn't do the eurorail pass, we just hoped on since you could always by tickets the day of, and went south. Im not sure how the rail pass works, maybe you can just up and go whenever, but our tickets were cheap anyway.

Rail travel within Europe is usually efficient and easy. No schlepping to the airport, and the train stations are usually in the middle of town (and often there are multiple stations in larger cities). No need for a pass--unless you're moving every 2 days, the pass likely won't save you any money.

Wife, 2 Seattle friends, and I were in Berlin for last year's marathon to watch 2 of our German friends run in it. I can give you recommendations for a few restaurants and things to see if you want them.

Berlin was super-fun and fairly inexpensive.

Go to Interlaken and Innsbruck. Both are beautiful and the eurorail takes you through there.

If you want to do the Alps OP, I'd highly recommend renting a car. Most of the best stuff is outside of major cities. Trains in Europe are great but only from city center to city center.

Outside of that, don't sweat it. Its very easy and that would be a great trip.
