The dyed mulch is full of chemicals and is typically chopped up pallets/lumber that has been previously treated.
Double ground hardwood or pine mulch has the most benefits for plants/soil chemistry.

To each their own. We used the brown colored mulch last year and it held its looks through to winter. We will be using again.

wrong...none of the bagged colored mulch at the big boxes use treated or pallet wood...mostly wood waste from lumber mills...and the colorants used to color wood mulch has less voc's and metals than are allowed in bagged soil/potting mixes
