I think you are onto something here....

Older folks use "eating someone's arse" and interchange it with "chewing someone's arse out".

Reminds me of one time years ago when I was just old enough to understand things such as this. My grandmother, who was about 80 at the time, was relaying a story about two of her older friends getting into an argument in the grocery store.

"And there they were, Gladys and Edna, just eating each other out right there in the middle of Piggly Wiggly"

I don't think I have ever bit my tongue harder trying not to laugh....
