I understand and not the point I was getting at. Simply correcting you on your previous statement that was inaccurate.
I was saying if these guys are working independently with the intent to sell to the highest bidder than that bidder is not liable.
I already acknowledged that doesn't appear to be the case here, though.

It seems we agree. The difference is you referred to them as an IC, when in your example they would be more of their own company offering a service to the news outlets.
