Discrepancies in prior convictions and acceptance of plea deals explains almost all of this

Just look at the FBI crime statistics, blacks commit crime at much higher rates

Also accepting plea deals. Let’s say a guy is caught driving drunk with a stolen gun and a crack pipe. He may accept a deal where he just gets the DWI charge but the punishment is harsher than a typical DWI

There is probably also a small amount of systemic bias due to the large amounts of crime in the black community. I won’t deny that. Judge probably looks at a young black criminal and says we need to punish them harsher to end the cycle. I’m not saying it’s right.

It’s similar to choosing a pickup basketball team and picking the one black guy. It’s just a natural shortcut our brain takes when it doesn’t know all the facts

Thanks. I had not thought of this . I am sure the stats show blacks are arrested with multiple charges at a far greater rate than whites.
