Virginia has the 4th highest offensive rating in the country. They also have the 4th highest defensive rating. And the #2 overall net rating behind Gonzaga.
They can score, and they can defend. Gardner-Webb would not be able to keep up. They had a hot start and Virginia had a bad start. That's all there was to it. Since that early lead, Virginia has out-scored them by 35 points.

They are efficient per possession, but they don't typically generate a ton of possessions, so their gross scoring is mediocre.
What I said was true - UVA typically doesn't generate enough possessions to blow someone out when they're currently down by 14. Luckily, their defense picked it up quickly and they shot a little better in the second half.
