It was kind of shocking to hear the one guy say he didn't want to go back home after getting the news that the war was over.
I've heard that people who've been in prison for a long while get institutionalized and don't want to be let out. Perhaps he was suffering the same type phenomenon?

I’m sure it’s hard to go back to farming corn in rural Kansas after seeing the places and things they saw.
