To answer your original question... The electoral college prevents one state from determining the President, as has already been said. The best example in history is what California is doing as a Sanctuary state. If they have their way they will be bringing in 1 million illegal aliens every year, giving them the right to vote. Even if all the other states close their borders, California would throw open the door and corrupt the entire national election.

You need to get over the popular vote issue. You don't get points for having more yards. You get points for getting into the end zone. Trumps deficit was in California. He never campaigned there because the popular vote is only yards. Not points.
