Lawrence has battled injuries, and doesn’t have the career numbers when compared to someone like K. Mack. They are similar size, play play a similar position, and both were part of the 2014 draft. No way should he get a contract in Mack’s range.
Lawrence’s reps will argue he hasn’t missed a game in the last 2 seasons despite a labrum injury. His stats are better than Mack’s over that span. Advanced stats show he’s more disruptive than Mack, faces more double teams, and doesn’t have as much pass rush support from his teammates as Mack.
The Cowboys tagged Lawrence after a breakout 2017 season, and told him they wanted him to prove that season wasn’t a fluke. They wanted him to continue to stay on the field and repeat his production in 2018. His sack totals were down a little, but overall 2018 was another great season.
Cowboys aren’t going to pay him elite money, but Lawrence is starting to play at an elite level.
