Twitch Streaming Laptop (Streaming Only)

Got a client with a kid who wants to stream on twitch (who doesnt at this point). Needs a dual purpose computer - to stream and go to class - so laptop it is.
Kid will be playing games on Xbox and using a capture card, so the laptop is for broadcast/chat interaction only. Am I right to assume that CPU and RAM are the only real requirements here? Can't see why a dedicated GPU is necessary, and I'd like to keep from having to recommend a bulky gaming unit since its going to have to go to class with him too.
Anyone doing something like this currently?

this doesnt answer your question but I believe the twitch app on xbox allows you to stream as well. So they could use really any laptop to read//moderate chat and let Xbox do everything else.

You can do CPU encoding (x264) but it takes a lot of CPU usage. It will be better though. NVIDIA just came out with a better NVENC tweak that allows the RTX line do much better. Usually the NVENC (GPU) encoder doesn't do as well in quality vs x264 but it doesn't hurt performance as much.
However, this doesn't really matter if he is using a capture card from an Xbox.
Why not just get a laptop and he play on it with a controller?
Any laptop will do for school.
I'd find a computer with a 1050Ti and a non low power CPU. Don't know what they are now but they used to be "u" on the end like i5 8xxxu

Apparently he wants to use a computer to stream because the quality is better than allowing the xbox to do the whole thing. As for why xbox vs pc gaming - bro i'm just the IT guy. Kids gonna kid.
I'm thinking a quad core with 16GB RAM will be fine. From what I have gathered, the GPU has no work load in this type of setup, so GPU will be dependent only on if he wants to be able to game occasionally from the laptop. Just looking to see if anyone else has had this type of setup in the past, or if anyone is currently using a dual pc stream setup.

Get him something with the new 8th gen i7s and it's 6 core/12 thread. Pair it with an upper end gpu and he'll be able to stream alright
Biggest problem he'll have is portability and battery life will be shite

Whats the GPU workload for streaming? Shouldn't all that be CPU load? Xbox is rendering the game and el gato is doing the capture.

An i5 can handle streaming too.
