From a Democrat perspective I don’t get this. Their EV’s went to Hillary. The only chance that they don’t go to whoever the Dems run in 2020 is if they pass this. Would be hilarious if it passed and caused Trump to take Colorado.

The Pact doesn’t take effect until at least 270 votes worth of states agree meaning that if it does take effect, the national vote will determine the Presidency

I remember at one point in 2016 Hillary’s camp thought Trump might win popular vote but she would win electoral vote. It would be funny to see all these states back track if he did by chance win popular vote in 2020, but it will not happen as these Laws are going to increase motivation to push lax voting laws and rules in states like California.
These laws are creating even more motivation for those states that allow mail in votes to keep coming in late to keep finding more boxes. California post election night vote increase will double or triple it’s usual amount, which already seems high, to stop the electoral votes in these states passing this law from going red if any were to possibly vote Red including by a plurality due to 3rd party candidate. States with no voter ID laws, not marking their non-citizen IDs used for registering to vote clearly as non-citizens, and also wanting to let non-citizens vote in state & local elections are going to also end up have an increase in non-citizens “accidentally” vote in federal election as well and in fraudulent votes in general. They realize votes in their state can influence other states electoral vote keeping them blue regardless of their citizens’ votes.
Even if an amendment doing away with electoral college could pass on its on there is no way enough states would also agree to include a standard federal election voting process and vote counting process that would have to take place in all 50 states in order to make sure each vote is counted and handled the exact same and equal way in a nation wide popular vote for President. These laws are really what Democrats wanted more than doing away with EC as they can keep their lax voting laws and control these states. Complaining about electoral college is a way to get them passed where Democrats are in control or mostly in control. Some Republicans and Independents in many states where Democrats may need a little help support doing away with EC, and I fear they may be duped into thinking this is first step.
