Yeah my brother and I were talking about it over Christmas and both agreed how fricked up it was. And not trying to disparage my mom because almost every parent did it at the time, at least in our neighborhood. Maybe our neighborhood was different, but all the adults were super close and had block parties and cookouts all the time.

She stopped doing it though when she got in a minor accident one afternoon, and it turned into a huge ordeal for her to get home. I just remember our neighbor coming over to cook us dinner saying mom got stuck in a meeting that ran over or something. Mom came busting through the door and had obviously been crying and just grabbed us, hugged us and kept apologizing. I was like 6 or 7, brother was 7 or 8.
