D-II final between Holy Cross and Lakeshore starts soon.
Should be a great one. Holy Cross are defending champs, but Lakeshore are arguably slight favorites based on their form. Seeking to be the first nonselect school to win a boys title since Carencro made a stunning run in 2006.
It’ll have a matchup of one of the best forwards in the state (Lakeshore’s Jacob Bernard) against probably the best centerback in the state (Ethan Garvey of Holy Cross).

Scoreless after regulation. Going to OT.
Both teams nearly scored in the last 5 minutes. Holy Cross had a point-blank header hit the crossbar.

Two nice goals, one for each team in first half of OT.
Tied 1-1 with six minutes left in 1st OT. As I type, Holy Cross keeper makes a great save off a header.

Headed to golden goal. Two five minute periods. Then to penalties if there’s no winner.

No goals all match and then...
Always laugh when that happens.

No golden goal.
The title will by decided on penalty kicks.

Holy Cross wins 3-1 on 4 rounds of penalties. Repeat champions.
Lakeshore scored 1, missed 2, and had the last one saved.
Holy Cross scored 3 and had 1 saved.

Time is a flat circle. Newman lost today in an eerily similar way to the way they won the state title 10 years ago. Bluebarracuda can take some solace, at least.
Newman led 1-0 with about five minutes to go and seemed to be in firm control of the match. Then Northlake’s Garett Acosta hit a 60-hard bomb free kick straight into the goal to equalize. Then three minutes later he scores the winner by curling a corner kick straight into the goal. Amazing finish.
Northlake Christian wins 2-1 to claim their third title in 9 years. This was definitely the most surprising. Everyone had ESA pencil in as champions before the season started.

Now it’s time for the main event. Kickoff at 7:30.
Last year St. Paul’s were heavy favorites, having beaten Jesuit twice in the regular season, only to lose in stunning fashion.
This year, I don’t think either team is a favorite. It’s a coin-flip. They drew in their early-season matchup.
St. Paul’s will be going for their fifth title in 6 years, while Jesuit goes for their fourth in 8 years.

I didn’t see the goal, but apparently St. Paul’s scored in the first minute. Thanks Cox WiFi.
They lead 1-0 at half.

St. Paul’s wins 3-0. Michael Dufour scores a hat trick.
Game was never in doubt. Soccer is a funny sport. I think most people would have expected this type of score last year and a more competitive game this year.

Wow...so combined they won 9 titles in 8 years?

St Pauls beats Jesuit 3-0 in the championship. 11 straight titles between the 2 schools.
Thats amazing in itself but if not for last years miraculous result where 15-seed Jesuit upset 1-seed St Pauls it would be 6 straight championships for St Pauls now. Think you can already say itll be theirs to lose next year too

I know that...just trying to understand how they won 9 titles in 8 years...unless they weren’t always in same classification?

I think your math is a bit skewed.
You're giving St. Paul's and Jesuit each a title for this year. Only one of them can win it this year. For St Paul's it would be their 5th while for Jesuit it would be their 4th.
Before this weekend, Jesuit had only won 3 St. Paul's had only won 4. So now it's Jesuit with 3 and St. Paul's with 5.
3+5=8
