You can make an argument that guaranteed contracts play into larger TV markets hands who can eat the tax for long periods of time due to television contracts, etc.
Maybe make it where free agent contracts aren’t fully guaranteed but extensions are. Gives the player more incentive to stay with their current team instead of teaming up with other stars to form superteams. NBAPA would fight it big time though
