Definitely a few more eye rolls at TLJ, but TFA wasn't what some think it was.
TFA only started looking good when TLJ came out. Everything looks good compared to TLJ even the Prequels. As a fan you are like damn we complained about the prequels but never knew how bad it could really get.

Disney is 100% corporate-driven. Good ideas are always going to take a back seat to cold marketing. This is all their "diversity" bullshite is. International marketing. It's the same reason they conjured a female character for The Hobbit and called it "girl power."
But they aren't creative enough to bolster it with a good story, so they do the only thing they know how to do - whine about stupid shite.
