He was a longtime QB coach in Dallas, but is probably best known as a Vikings QB.

He took over for Tommy Kramer late in the ‘87 season and upset the Saints and 49ers on the road. The Vikings lost a close game to the Redskins in the NFC championship, The Redskins destroyed Denver in the Super Bowl.

He remained the starter in ‘88, and had a great season. He finished his career as a backup again. He was with the Saints for a couple of seasons in the early 90’s, before moving to the Cowboys as a backup to Aikman and won a ring.

He was diabetic and had some complications in the last couple of years.

Yeah, he was a back up to Aikman along with current Cowboys coach Jason Garrett (1995-1997). Those were his 14th, 15th, and 16th seasons in the NFL.
