When it’s -20 you damn well better wear more than one layer.

But you do get acclimated. The first winter I was in NY we wore shorts when it got up to the 30’s. We’d been so used to subzero temps that 30 felt like a heatwave.

Obviously, but that’s not an “average winter temperature.” Not even close.

When I finally came off the mountain and got back to my apartment in Germany, I was driving to the store and everyone had on heavy jackets, scarves, etc. and I was in jeans and a tshirt. I looked at the temp and it was 38 outside. It honestly felt nice outside to me.

But three months below freezing with most of the temps being below zero will do that to you.
