I think Indiana Tiger mentioned something about this a while back. Would be an interesting situation to say the least.

I could very well be wrong on this, but wouldn’t the problem be that football would still have to take a risk in this scenario?

If I understand the 25 signing limit rule, then under the scenario proposed, the football team would have to risk signing 25 players and not having a spot left if the baseball player gets to campus and decides he wants to play, or the football team would still have to leave a spot open, only sign 24, and then if the baseball player decides not go to MLB or only play baseball, then football is left without the benefit of a full signing class.

I mean, I guess the only benefit I see for football is that they don’t lose the open spot and can carry it forward to the next years signing class if the baseball player doesn’t end up playing football.

Pass it up the chain for a change! My thinking is in that situation, football doesn't have to take that huge risk by letting him sign in Feb. It might not even be necessary, but having Mainieri offer would be a show of good faith while we wait for his ultimate decision.

On a side note, I bet Mainieri is chomping at the bit in hopes this guy comes to LSU, more so than Orgeron. It's a free full scholly for baseball!
