I live in Ascension also. Don’t Bother trying to find somewhere in Ascension to crawfish. I’ve tried just about every spot.
Best bet is Sherburne south farm. Doesn’t open till mid -March. Should be great this year because it was closed last year due to high water. You don’t need a 4 wheeler, but you definitely need a garden wagon with blow up tires.
BC spillway is hit and miss. When the water drops on the river side where there is visible land. All you have to do is find a drainage ditch and you can load up very quickly. Mostly all white river crawfish, which are larger than swamp crawfish.
Beef melt is a must. Rouses can special order if they don’t have it in stock. Brian’s Superette also stocks it.
