Zach Strief is gonna be a train wreck tomorrow. Think they could coax Jim out of retirement for a day? Or maybe two for the Super Bowl?

Every announcer is terrible except the one you grew up listening to. These guys have to talk for 4 hours of course not everything they say will be great.

Actually that’s not true. There are lots of great play by play guys across the league. Saints have 32/32 and it’s not even close how bad he is compared to others. Listen to NFL radio on XM when the Saints aren’t on and hear the comparison.

esp. for someone like Strief who's literally never done this before
believe me... as someone who calls games from time to time... it's not as easy as it seems
it does take a while to get used to the speed of these games... esp. when you're trying to balance time for the analyst to talk while making sure you say everything you need to to paint the picture of the game
I always said Strief would need at least 1 full season to start getting used to doing it and then another to really start settling into a good groove where he'll really start to feel comfortable doing this
said the same for David Wesley as Pelicans analyst (he's fortunate to have Joel Meyers sitting next to him to help guide him along)
I already feel Strief's started really settling in and will continue to get better and better

You’re comparing a guy doing color to a guy doing the play by play. No issue with Zach doing color. He’s more suited to that role. A professional play by play person should have been chosen to do the job or Zach should have gone to the college ranks to learn how to do it. He shouldn’t get time to “settle” in to the job. Many talented people have waited for year to do a job like this and an amateur with an iPad was given the job.

they decided to go with Strief
if you want to blame the Saints/WWL 870 for picking a connected novice... go ahead and do that
but you do not call a rookie a bust after just 1 season... you have to look for continued growth throughout the season
I've listened to every snap on Saints radio this season... Strief's grown in the role during this season and I expect him to continue to grow as he goes into season 2
he had his best "add on" line of the season last Sunday with the "go take a picture" quip after Latt's game saving INT at the 2:00 warning
they decided to go with Strief
