Also crazy at the beginning, how they had secured the first location but were specifically told not to mention that Pablo Escobar used to own it - and the first thing the idiots publicize is that it used to be owned by Pablo Escobar, and got booted and had to find another site.
Yeah but can you imagine if they didn't get booted? How much more a clusterfrick it would have been? Yeah there was a runway on that island...but there was no nearby hotels/home on it iirc.
Like they mentioned in one of the documentaries....they got so lucky so many times...which ultimately was worse for them. They might have realized sooner that this was just not a feasible project and cancelled it.
And I also don't feel bad for the people that went there. Any of them could have done some basic research online before the festival date and realized this seemed too good to be true. I mean...they had websites before the festival that were dedicated to proving that Fyre fest was a fraud

I have to admit that the entertaining part was that all those spoiled snowflakes got scammed by an idiot.

The Hulu one was good, but I liked the Netflix one a little better. They go into more depth as far as the festival is concerned. The Hulu one is more about Billy being a conman. My God. Ja Rule is cringeworthy and an idiot. Why anyone would be proud of partnering with him is beyond me.
Him saying “it’s not fraud, it’s false advertisement” was just awful

In a world where identity and image are everything, con men can thrive. People choose to live in a virtual reality, which is easily manipulated by no talent sociopaths.

Are you familiar with Bernie Madoff, Barry Minko, Charles Ponzi, the guys from Enron? These types of people have existed since the beginning of civilization, and they will exist thousands of years from now too.
To be fair...the people that entrusted the ones you listed were trying to secure their retirement...
Not spend $5,000-$10,000 to hear Blink 182 and be totally wasted for 3 days.

The event was promoted on Instagram by Kardashian family socialite Kendall Jenner (who was paid $250,000 and has since deleted the post), Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, Hailey Baldwin, Elsa Hosk, Chanel Iman, Lais Ribeiro, Alessandra Ambrosio, Shanina Shaik, Nadine Leopold, Rose Bertram, Gizele Oliveira, Hannah Ferguson, and other niche-actresses and media personalities.
Ratajkowski was reportedly the only actress or model to use the hashtag #ad but has also since deleted the post. Only later was it reported that Jenner and the others had been paid to make the posts, something they were required under federal law to disclose.
Sorry if you're paying up the wazzoo to attend an event that a Kardashian is promoting - no sympathy that you got scammed by the ultimate fake societal scammers.
The attendees acted like this was the worst thing in the world - being stuck at an airport or cheese sandwiches.
This wasn't Hurricane Katrina. This was people who wanted to blow a lot of money on being with C-list celebs and listening to B-list acts while drinking Tequilla 24/7.
It's like those porn retreats you see advertised - party with your favorite porn stars. Ugh.
These were idiots not because they got defrauded but because they wanted to spend so much money to go to this festival to begin with all because of word of mouth social media.

I just checked out the Netflix one
Some people are just fricking stupid. And then the dumbfricks who started giving "Todd" the ticket guy or whatever money through his fricking emails.
Jesus people are just so dumb that they deserve what they get. The whole one night in the Lord of the rings kinda tent area...I bet that was fricking insane and foul.

That’s a whole other interesting read. Seems like there was a decent thread about it not that long ago either here or the OT.
Funniest thing I recall is that the hippie chics would bath and frolic naked in the river and the ole local baws would pull up in their boats, drop anchor and just watch.

I hear what you are saying but I can’t imagine what more they could have been told to make them realize it was doomed, even down to the last days before it was supposed to start.
They even said as much, that the top guys would ignore or dismiss updates with vital information of failures to do or obtain things up until the end.
The contrast between the ultra-slick marketing promos and actual reality is so insane. They definitely had the marketing side down pat.

What is even more nuts is that 6000 attendees @ $7500 avg. a pop is $45 million dollars, up front. Cash. Give me $45 million and a year and I could make that show happen, and put a few mil in the bank.

Victim less crime, only need 6 years. 3 if he's on good behavior.

Yes but those guys are actual Scam. Fyre Fest was not a scam. He actually tried to make it work and sank all the money into it. The project SHOUlD have cost 100 million over a year period. He only spent 34 million and made lots of delayed payments.
So he didn't pocket those money like Bernie and the guys you listed. He thought it was ALL gonna work out via the power of wish fulfillment.
That is a Millennial things. No borders, everyone should think their way. IF there is a problem, those people are wrong.

It's amazing how dumb as shite people seemingly find themselves access to tons of money.
How about those dumb employees that racked up insane American Express bills all at the direction/request of this clown.

Not to turn this political, but it's funny a lot of the criticisms of millenials in this thread can be applied to our president.

Yep...they weren't even profiting they were just exchanging one debt for another and hoping they make it big. That's what sad about it, it wasn't a scam they were trying to maintain a life style and actually thought they were the next Mark Zuckerberg.

And the former president and most politicians in general.

I mean... I can understand being behind on payment for tweek weeks. I get that, but for them to not receive Any payment for over a month?
I mean which laborer would be dumb enough to continue working IF you are not getting paid on time in a timely manner? As long as I get paid I will continue to work, if not i don't. This go double for their foremen and triple for their contractor.
You don't get paid you stop the work.
