I'm sorry, who made this statement? He wasn't running from "his problems"... he was running from certain death had he stayed. Now, it could be argued that as soon as he was full grown, he should have returned, but how? With what plan? It wasn't until Nala found him and she could pass the message onto the other lionesses that they could take down the hyenas and Scar. He would have lost otherwise.

Agreed. If you love both movies, I think it makes an even tuffer decision based on how many really good/interesting characters there are in each film. Its pretty evenly split. Somehow Lion King makes you laugh at Whoopi Goldberg, thats hard to do.
