I’d think if it was widespread there would be more stories out there.

A relative of mine was a female athlete at LSU in the not to distant past. She got hurt was continually told by LSU doctors she was fine and her coached pushed her to practice/work out (off-season at this time). When it got to the point where she could barely walk her parents made her go to a non-LSU physician who found multiple stress fractures and ligament damage. She had a procedure and started PT supervised by the LSU doctors. They cleared her well ahead of the timeline for recovery the family doctor presented. Said athlete works her arse off and figured she was just ahead of schedule do to her dedication. During her first team activity she again felt the discomfort and the coach pushed her to continue even though she was obviously not ready to be back. Said coach was pissed when she shut herself down again at the advice of the non-LSU doctor. She sat out the season and did not return to the team afterwards. It took a full year and a half from the time LSU cleared her until the time she was actually healed from her injuries.

You can find stories like this in almost any college athletic program. And many high schools, for that matter. Certainly not just LSU. Though obviously, the more money at stake and/or the pressure to win, the more likely it becomes.

Take all the athletes and divide by actual cases.
Again if it was widespread we would hear more about it.
