Take 1 team from each of the “Power” or traditional Basketball Conferences plus 2 “at larges” but teams can only play in it once every 3 years. Then play it in different locations yearly

Example of this year’s tournament would be
ACC Duke
AAC Houston
A10 Dayton
B1G Purdue
B12 KU
Big East Villanova
CUSA La Tech
MAC Miami, OH
MVC Loyola
MWC Nevada
PAC Arizona St
SEC LSU
WAC Bakersfield
WCC St Mary’s
At Large Harvard, Furman

The winner of each place in both bracket plays in a game to give a 4th game

The next years tourney could be

ACC UVa
AAC UConn
A10 Temple
B1G Michigan St
B12 OU
Big East Georgetown
CUSA Western Kentucky
MAC Bowling Green
MVC UNI
MWC San Diego St
PAC UCLA
SEC Florida
WAC NMSU
WCC Gonzaga
At Large Davidson, FGCU

Maui Classic was basically 8 team version of that

2018 field:
Duke, Gonzaga, Arizona, Iowa State, Auburn, Xavier, Illinois and San Diego State

2019 is:
Chaminade, BYU, Dayton, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan State, UCLA, Virginia Tech

So SEC, ACC, PAC12, Big 10, Big 12, all represented.

Plus it’s Maui.
