but from an on the field perspective I don't see it as being a good move. LSU needs player that can help close the gap on the field. Close that gap and the rest will take care of itself.
We have 1 defensive lineman committed and the last 3 classes have been very Dlineman light due to some recruiting misses.

We have no one on the board close to Ishmaels caliber.

He is the way to close the gap. It’s all fine and dandy to say “just go land some 4*’s and help close the gap”

Give the actual names of the guys that we can land to do that.

Ishmael is the type of kid that O is suppose to land. No excuses, get the job done.

I never said "just go land some 4 *s" LSU is already giving up 2 scholarships to a kicker and a long snapper. Giving up one to Rodney makes 3 scholarships to players that can't help the defense or offense get better. Recruiting players is a crap shoot, there are no guarantees. And numbers play a large factor in getting that one player that can be a difference maker. I am not saying having a competent long-snapper and a good FG kicker are not important, but LSU's problem against bama is much larger than a FG kicker or a long snapper. Those are positions that must be filled and there is very little way around it. But add another scholarship to that and it's a waste. I'm sure there's some 3 star players LSU hasn't offered that would love to be Tigers. And just because they are 3 stars doesn't mean they won't be good. One player will not close the gap between LSU and bama. If that was the case LSU should not have lost 8 games in a row with all the NFL talent they have had on the field. No player coming out of HS is worth 2 scholarships. I've seen a lot of players come out of HS and were suppose to be superstars in college and they were not superstars. Some turned out to be okay, some didn't turn out to be much at all and very, very few ended up being game-changer type players. There is no guarantee Ish will be that type player.

I agree that we desperately need more in this class, but the above statement is just false. We signed so many last year that we moved two to offense. We are still left with three very good young players as interior dlinemen - Jenkins, Cotton, and Livingston.
