You didn't read the article, did you? The trend is bad on exports and imports.
now, I am surprised that someone hasn't said - this is businesses filling their inventory before the next round of tariffs hit. This is at least partially what is going on.

Most Chinese suppliers were giving guarantees to customers that if you placed orders by a certain deadline in Oct that you would not be subject to the new tariffs on Jan 1 and they would eat them if you products hadn't cleared customs by Jan 1.
It sucks that we missed our deadline and have a 20k line item on our latest order.
