It’s a young, stupid decision. Older people don’t do this. I got married at 24 and all together, I think around $25,000 was spent. It was really ignorant since at that age you’re paying stuff off, trying to buy a home, etc.
My SO and I are getting married soon. We are just going to justice of the peace then taking a nice vacation to celebrate. We’ve both been married before tho and don’t see the need for going through that process again.

Depends on what you mean by old. If you're inviting a bunch of people from your professional networks to your wedding, it can definitely add pressure to do things well.
In our case it was easiest to do a smaller but higher quality wedding. Problem is that the scale wasn't really the problem. Going from 200 to 100 doesn't cut the cost in half, etc.
