Plus one for Henry lever action. I bought one for my dad a couple of years ago. Sweet gun if you like lever action. Otherwise 10/22 is tried and true. Also, if you like the AR look, M&P 15-22 (3/4 size of AR). Fun to shoot, but I probably wouldn't buy one again because mine is picky about ammo though.

I’m partial to lever guns so I’d say either a Henry or Browning BL-22.
For semi-autos, Ruger 10/22, Browning SA-22, Remington FieldMaster, Marlin 60 are all quality rifles as well.
If you can get your hands on one, the Browning BPR-22 is the cream of the crop. My grandpaw passed down one to me.
Never had much use for bolt action bolt 22s. Don’t shoot well enough for one lol.
