My fourtrax did this after sitting. I ran seafoam through it, and have been running it more, and the float sticking has gone away.
I still turn the fuel off and let it run till it dies.
ETA: A knock off new carb is like 80-100 bucks.

Seafoam is your friend.
Wait till tank is low. Add seafaorm and crank it to get in the carb them kill it and let it sit as long as you don't need it.
Fill with fresh gas and start her up. That will help tremendously with the carb.
