Exactly. What's the point of a team like UCF playing if they can go two straight years without losing a game and not have a chance at the championship?
If you want to do that, then create a separate division.

Are you asking why UCF should continue to play football even though they feel like for two years they will unfairly have been left out of the discussion?

I actually would be in favor of this if the CFP does not expand at the FBS level. Making a Group of 5 championship style tournament at the end of the year would be a great idea. You could even crown them National Champions of the Group of 5, much like you do with FCS, D-2, and D-3.
But that is deflecting from your original point/question. Why is UCF's resume used against them. Because they have a very weak strength of schedule, and even some of those games against weaker competition they played them too close. I think UCF would have a much better argument atleast in the eyes of the committee if they had beaten Memphis and Temple by a lot more and truly dominated. Next year they play Stanford at home early enough where Stanford could be ranked, that would be a big win if that happens, and would change a lot of peoples minds including my own about considering them seriously.
I personally think the playoff should be a 12 or 8 team playoff. First 4 seeds get byes in the 12 version, and atleast one Group of 5 school gets in, in either version. I agree the system is not fair, but based off of how the current system is set up, no UCF does not "deserve" to be in the CFP, nor are they one of the 4 best teams in my opinion, which does not mean shite, but I think the committee will say that as well.
