Would Trump had beaten Bush in 2000 if he'd run?

I'm too young to remember the 2000 election. For the older people on here, how would he have fared against Dubya? I read something where he almost ran for the Republican ticket in 2000 and momentarily ran as a 3rd party (Reform Party)

Probably not. People didn't vote for Trump because they were happy with the status quo political establishment. 15 years of war, 2008 fiscal crisis, and 8 years of progressive identity politics got you Trump
