It's pretty hard to swim with rubber waders on, and when you get an air bubble in the feet, it makes your feet float up. I've been in that situation once. That being said, there's no way I'm getting dressed when I get to my spot. That's done at the launch.

Panicked people drown in every situation easier than calm people.

Eta: I am a very good swimmer, so I didn't freak out when I went under. I let my feet float up, got my bearings, and got ready to take the waders off. Put my legs vertical next to get the bubble out, and kicked off the waders. Wasn't easy since I was wearing jeans under them. I did all of that while floating down a bayou. Waders then went underwater, and popped up about 15ft away.

Hell, a lot of people will drown if they fall in the water with just jeans on

I saw a guy finishing concrete fall into the shallow end of a swimming pool almost drown. He was fighting the whole time until his son jumped in and grabbed him in a bear hug and made him stand up. The water was 3’ deep.
