Alot of people do have trouble with this, even people with money. My wife does for example, but we have a deal. She pays all the bills, groceries, etc except half the mortgage and most of my paycheck goes towards savings and retirement for us.

This to start with.
Every pay day, set in your budget of paying yourself 10% of take home pay. Put that into savings and build a nest egg of no less then 6 months pay for emergencies is a must. That will keep you from using any credit cards or borrowing any money.
