IMO, progression is not something you want to do. You read the defense, and either go with your play or check off. If your primary is covered, or protection breaks down, then you progress to secondary, safety valve, or pull it down. Mind you, all this happens in just a few seconds. Crazy.

The problem is that a few seconds is too long. Tom Brady gets rid of the ball in the 2.1 to 2.25 range. Payton Manning was about the same.
