Huh? .280 has to be one of the most capable standard long action calibers ever invented. And every manufacturer loads for it these days.

OP said he wants a gun for under 100 yards, everyone is giving him 200+ yard guns. He should't be looking for a bolt action gun either IMO unless its something like a 20 gauge slug gun.
For close thick woods shots, i'd get a semi auto, lever action, etc. 30-30 is perfect for this.

I figured this would turn into a caliber war 
. I think I'm going to go with a 6.5 creedmoor. Christmas is hopefully bringing a Tikka T3 Hunter 308 so I'll be covered there. Preciate it fellas.
