Is it really that good? I've been looking for a new book and I've always heard good thing about the series, but 11 books is a heck of an investment.

TLK looks to be more my cup of tea, overall. I tried Vikings and got the same vibe from the male lead as I did from Jax in SOA so I passed. Just didn't like that guy and it was going to be unlikely I would like him.

We are going to give TLK a try in the near future.

YES the Saxon series books are great. They are quick reads. I enjoy the narrative perspective—Uhtred tells the story in the first person, and he is an unapologetic medieval warlord. No hang ups about killing, no desire of walking away from any fight, no patience for peace.

Can’t claim to have read everything, but what I have read says there is no indication that he was a cripple. There is only speculation on why he was called The Boneless. Most think he was tall, thin, limber and quick. Some speculate that he was impotent, but even that seems unlikely in the era of the Viking. One thing is certain, nowhere in the Saxon Chronicles is a crippled Viking warlord found.

I’d like to see an entirely different series set in medieval ME/Byzantine rather than shoehorn Vikings back there.

Picked up The Last Kingdom last night. About 40 pages in. Can't wait to get home and pick it back up.

The Last Kingdom, it is not that close.

Vikings show is good, but The Last Kingdom is closer to Game of Thrones and a better production than Vikings.
