Cant just blame the pines. Almost any tree will fall in these types of winds especially if the ground is wet with the rain before the big winds hit. Id rather a pine fall on the house then some of those huge oaks that blanket the south. It seems when mother nature is angry trees are not the best thing to have around your house. just a few things come to mind: fires,tornados, hurricanes.

We should mostly plant live oaks and cypress trees (some palms) along the gulf coast.

Water/ Pin oaks and pine trees are just dangerous with huge winds and rain.
