Getting blackout drunk does not necessarily mean you've passed out or are unconscious. It means you can't remember what happened.

You can't "see" if someone is blackout drunk.

If you’re well-acquainted with someone who is regularly blackout drunk, you know it because the blackout drunk will give you numerous clues that they were blacked out the previous night. Perhaps you don’t have friends, so you don’t know how that works.
