The lights are usually independant of the control. Most control failures the lights still work.
In Showroom mode the lights work and nothing else.
In power failure nothing works.
You generally have to hold the top fridge and top freezer, or the top freezer and bottom fridge buttons.
Generally the two freezer buttons will take you into forced compressor run or forced defrost. If no combinations of buttons does anything then I would think it's a bad boards. To give you the exact information I would need a model number.
