I came looking for this thread to see if Banff was mentioned, and here it was on page 1. I've never been, but it looks amazing from what I've seen so far.
Few questions: what is y'all's favorite time to go there? How pricey is everything? Where have y'all stayed for lodging?

Banff was great when I went last year. From what I’ve seen, it’s cheaper to go during ski season than the summer which is opposite of most ski mountains. The problem is it gets brutally cold. We went Easter weekend so it wasn’t too cold, but not really spring conditions that most places experience that time of year. So I’d recommend going in the spring. Crowds were manageable.
We stayed in Canmore. Wherever you stay between the towns of Banff or Canmore, you’re going to have to drive a little to get to the mountain. Unless you pony up and stay at the Fairmont on Louise. For the skiing, I preferred Lake Louise over Sunshine. Check out a trail map for Louise, the backside was incredible.
