The day my dad died.
I had gone out that night and my friends dropped me off a little after 2AM. He heard me come in and asked if it was me. I told him it was and good night. Soon after he started choking and my mom immediately ran to him (he had been sick for awhile). She told me to call 911, next thing I really remember is him on a stretcher laying lifeless on it.
By this time my friends saw the ambulance at my house and came back. My mom told me to stay home and she will call me. It was all happening so fast, or it at least felt like it. While he appeared to be lifeless on the stretcher, they were working on him so I really didn't know what was going on or what was going to happen. About 30-45 mins later, my mom comes home along with my dad's sister and her husband and informed me he passed away.
While he had been sick for awhile, he wasn't in a situation where he was expected to die within a certain time. And the way it happened, when it happened, etc.. As soon as my mom, aunt and uncle came back and informed me, I was started to process exactly what just happened.
That is also the same time when I considered my friends to be more of a family than my family. That's another story for another day, but I can't think of anything that is worse than losing one of my parents (and gradually lost my mom from a relationship stand point).
