Relatively recent LSU grad living in Atlanta and I'm coming down for the game too with some LSU/UGA fans. LSU's campus/game day atmosphere are second to none, but Baton Rouge is pretty meh compared to Athens. Here's where I'd say:
Restaurants:
Chimes should be no. 1 destination, even if you have to wait. It's an LSU landmark.
Bars:
If you want to go to a college bar, go to Bogies. If you want the post-grad young alumni scene, I'd say Ivar's, the Bulldog or downtown. Downtown has a nice stretch of bars if you want to bar hop, but the crowd is very hit or miss. I like Happy's and Boudreaux & Thibodeaux's personally. Avoid Tigerland.
For game day, I'd tailgate around the parade grounds and check out Mike's habitat and the band marching down the hill a couple hours before kick. I'd also get in the stadium early to see pregame.
Fingers crossed it's a night game so you can really see the true Death Valley/LSU tailgate scene, but this has a 2:30 p.m. kickoff written all over it. Still should be an awesome atmosphere assuming we have one loss or less going into the game. If we beat Auburn this weekend, it will be insane.
