but I slightly prefer non-fiction books,
Some of my favorite non-fiction books I have read over the past year or so:
Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman-- I think pretty much everyone should read this book. It will change the way you think about the way you think.
In True Blood by Truman Capote-- A true crime classic.
Stranger in the Woods by Michael Finkel-- Fascinating story of a man who lived in solitude in the woods of Maine for 27 years. He got supplies by breaking into unoccupied cabins terrifying and perplexing the whole community.
Shoe Dog by Phil Knight-- I'm not really into memoirs by famous people, but I heard this one was good and it was. A candid, funny, gripping look at the rise of Nike from its founding until it went public.
All the Pieces Matter by Jonathon Abrams-- An oral history of the best television show ever, The Wire. If you haven't seen The Wire, I wouldn't read this. I'd watch The Wire
When Breathe Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi-- Memoir by a young neurosurgeon diagnosed with terminal cancer. Obviously a sad read, but a great book on mortality and what makes life worth living.
Someone Could Get Hurt by Drew Magary-- A memoir of twenty-first century parenting by a former Deadspin writer. Very funny book.
