Sound quality has improved infinitely since that time. Additionally - the paradigm shifted around the late 00s to where a band's main source of income was ticket sales rather than record sales because of piracy, streaming, etc. This has forced bands to improve their live show. Sometimes this is a concentrated effort and others it's just a natural byproduct of simply playing live more.
