I've been building custom fishing rods for a little while now, and I wanted to start a small business doing just that. I've got my LLC and EIN through the geauxbiz.com website. That is pretty much where that website stops. I'm needing a state sales tax ID #, which I'm having trouble locating that info. What other documents would I need to operate a small business out of my home with just me as an employee in Lafayette Parish? TIA

To register in the parish, you'll have to get an occupational license for whatever city you are in (Lafayette, Youngsville, Broussard, etc.). The parish doesn't require occupational licenses.

For sales tax, go to the parish efile portal and create a log in and apply for a sales tax license for the state and parish.

Eta: if you need a bookkeeper/accountant to help you out in the future, let me know.

Depending on your neighborhood zoning, you may have to receive approval for a home-based business. So check your covenants, too.

i believe geauxbiz was updated to allow you to setup state and local sales tax accounts. calling your local sales tax office would probably also yield help setting this up. the fact that your house is your business location has nothing to do with your business activity, so long as your neighborhood doesn't bar as much. (i highly doubt there would be any prohibition on non brick and mortar retail).
