Pretty good theories.

Book 3 won’t disappoint.

I was not a fan of book 2. Was OK but I thought the pirate adventure didn’t mesh with the casino heist. Think it would have been better to just stick with one of those story lines and maybe revisit the other in its own book.

And I read it immediately after Lies and here was no way it could be that good.

The casino heist did fall flat IMO - just sort of an out of left field ending to it which felt rushed. The pirate stuff was really well done and I loved it - don't see a ton of that in fantasy these days.

The Redwall series (if you read that when you were younger) had a decent bit of that. Prince Caspian but a lot of the big name series like Malazan, Wheel of Time, etc. don't really have dedicated and in depth seafaring portions.
